This one will have to be removed

This one will have to be removed as it would be problematic permissions-wise on a number of fronts (Fred Flintstone, Halifax logo and Halifax ad).

- this is what my book editor said to me in an email just the other week.

The publisher must of course be mindful of copyrighted or trademarked material because they don’t want any lawsuits biting them in the ass. HOWEVER: here is another example of how the law affects public surfaces not just in-situ, but also in their reproductions and afterlives. It is remarkable to realise that this particular wall was earmarked, profited-from, copyrighted, managed, valued as an asset, and eventually turned into an exclusionary space, years after this photo was taken, mostly by entities who have never seen or touched it, and do not even know where it is.

My caption was “Multinational financial services can be pretty, too. Mural advertising for a bank produced by Global Street Art, one of the largest street art and advertising agencies in London.”
