Sex work debates

These two photos were taken 7 weeks apart on Sydney Road in Melbourne. They depict four women of different skin colours, with the Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal flags, and the message “Decolonise sex work”.

In the second photo, the trans flag was added, together with the following text:

Women of colour and low income women make up the majority of sex workers globally and the majority of buyers are rich, white men.

The industry is colonial and originated in slavery. Criminalise men who buy sex and give sex workers a right to exit.

Men aren’t entitled to women’s bodies. We are not a commodity.

How much does your consent cost?

Money is coercive, therefore sex work is paid rape.

Take note of the fragments of words and materials which appear around the poster, too.
